These Neurological levels concept derives from the Neurolinguistic Programming model (NLP) and it can facilitate and help us significantly to hear language used by our self-talk and others and then to apply the model to discover where the initial problems are being constructed within ourselves and others.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nare six logical levels and each of them represent  a different point\nof view which is also connected to the other levels and they are\narranged in a hierarchy of importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many of\nus, the logical levels work outside of our conscious and they have a\nhuge impact on the quality of our lives such as that every goal we\nwant to achieve or to sort out a problem lies  within one of those\nlogical levels. Once we understand this model we can use it to\nunderstand where our problem standing and use different thinking\nlevels in order to solve it.\nSometimes the words that we speak are not\nreally who we are. We have modelled our use of language from others\nand so may not be skilled in the use of language to communicate\nprecisely who we are. We may for example try to say that we are not\nable to do something but in fact what we mean is that we are not\nconfident enough at it. In this case, the feedback we will get is\nsomeone showing us how to do it \u2013 something which we already know \u2013\nand then feel humiliated and not helped.\nBeing aware of the Neurological Levels will\nhelp us to identify exactly from which level we are communicating and\nwhether it is that level that we want to communicate from.\nIt also helps us to respond appropriately to\nothers: it will help us to see from which level the other is\ncommunicating and respond accordingly thus facilitating\ncommunication, making the other feel understood and helped and\nmaintaining \/ establishing rapport. Apart from being important in\ninterpersonal communication it is also important in intrapersonal\ncommunication. When I am aware and can discern from which level I am\ncommunicating something with self, I may address it in the right way.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Logical\nLevels provide a structured way of understanding what\u2019s going on in\nany system including the human personality, a partnership or\nmarriage, a family, a team, a department, or even an organisation. We\ncan use the model to recognise how the various levels interact and\nhow they are related. And it provides a means of ; asking for, and\nverifying the relevance of, information,  keeping track, in a highly\nstructured manner, of the huge amount of information is often\navailable when discussing an issue; recognising at which level a\nproblem is occurring; recognising the most appropriate level at which\nto target the solution.\nLet me take the example given above \u2013 if I\nsay &#8221;<em>I am not able to do learn X language &#8221;<\/em> than, I may read\nand try to learn more how to do it. However, the statement is at\nbelief level and it means that a person is obviously confident is\nusing such skill, hence, I need to target more is about  building of\nmy confidence, getting rid of fears and insecurities, rather than\nskill-based knowledge.\nFurthermore, realising what neurological level\nI am thinking on, can help me also in my <strong>relationships with\nothers,<\/strong> whether subordinates, colleagues, friends or clients. I\nmay have a tendency to speak form identity level saying \u201c<em>that\nperson is not polite or arrogant<\/em> \u201d. By doing so I will be\ncutting off the individual \u2013 generalising, deleting and distorting\ninformation to conform to that identity statement. Consequently, the\nbehaviour is not what the person is \u2013 a person\u2019s behaviour is not\nhis\/her identity \u2013 this really had an impact on me. Though I knew\nthis before (theoretically so to say) it had never stuck me so\nclearly as when I listened to you speaking about is in the context of\nthe neurological levels. I am training myself not to go from a lower\nlevel up i.e. for example form a behaviour inferring an identity.\nThe same pattern can be applied in\norganisations too \u2013 both in training as well as in managing and\nmotivating people. The importance of being aware<strong> not to label\npeople from an identity level <\/strong>\u2013 saying for example, this person\nis stupid, \u2026. Instead of doing so one has to analyse the language\nthe person is using and see at what level is the difficulty \u2013 maybe\nthe person does not feel valued or the person feels excluded in\ndecision making thus rendering them to become critical and\ndemotivated.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\nare six logical levels and when the different levels of thinking are\nin congruence with each other, the person is experiencing a\nmeaningful and purposeful life. Listening to the language that people\nuse when they start to complain about a situation, we can realise at\nwhat level of the logical levels of change to pay attention too and\nto meet the need at the right level to get them back on track.\nChanging something on a lower logical level of the hierarchy could,\nbut would not necessarily affect the levels above it. However,making\na change at an upper level would necessarily change everything below\nit in order to support the higher level change, so it is necessary to\nwork at the level above the one we are trying to influence for\nsuccess. If you make a change at a lower level but the problem is at\na higher NLP logical level then the change is not likely to last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nlevels are visualized in a pyramid, <\/strong>from the basic and\nsuperficial at the bottom to the deepest and significant at the top.\nAlthough, a change in any of those levels can be impactful and affect\nthe other levels. Still, the higher the level which changes happen\nin, usually the change is bigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The six\nlevels are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Environment<\/strong>\n\u2013Our surroundings, the people around us and places we go and work\nin etc. that we are interacting with, and responding to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Behaviour\n<\/strong>\u2013What we do and say, Our external behaviours which may include,\nfor example, what an observer would see or hear or feel when they are\nengaged in a particular activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Capability\n&amp; Skills<\/strong> \u2013Whether or not we have instinctive capabilities\nand\/or learned skills for dealing appropriately with issues, and what\nqualities and strategies we use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Beliefs\n&amp; Value<\/strong>s \u2013Our emotionally held views, whether we believe\nsomething is possible or impossible, whether we believe it is\nnecessary or unnecessary, whether or not we feel motivated about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Identity\n<\/strong>\u2013How we think of ourselves, our self esteem, our sense of self,\nand our unique value. This can include identifying with our job,\nmarriage, religion, etc. it can also include how we interpret events\nin terms of our own self-worth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mission\nand Purpose in Life or Your Spirituality<\/strong> \u2013Referring to the\nlarger system of which we are part. Where are we going with our life?\nWith which people? and what contribution to the world we intend on\nmaking.\n\nI used the Neurological Levels of Change as an\nexercise with myself, looking at my own lack of motivation in\norganising a family holiday. I worked through the concept from\nenvironment up to mission. I discovered that what I had thought was a\nbehaviour level issue was in fact to do with identity and a clash\nbetween how I see myself and how (I believe) the rest of the family\nsee me.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D&#39;http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg&#39;%20width=&#39;_w_&#39;%20height=&#39;_h_&#39;%20viewBox%3D&#39;0%200%20_w_%20_h_&#39;%2F%3E\" data-czlz data-src=\"https:\/\/www.ktdizajn.hr\/monalisa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/NLP-levels.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1905\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\nBy being consciously aware of what we say is a\nhuge benefactor in enabling people to be the best they can be. The\nresults we get from people are heavily influenced by what we say\nbased on the language being linguistically coded. What is important\nto understand is how the use of words in the sentences we shape can\nimpact the results we want to achieve. The words we use enable choice\nand flexibility to progress and move forward in both life and the\nchoices we make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our attitudes, memories, decisions and values are all described through our language, there for the way we use the language when we communicate with both our self and other can either be limiting or enabling. Through language we express ourselves in three way, speaking, writing, and gestures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we listen to language it is important to understand what level people are communicating at, if someone is off track or lacks engagement when conversing with you, by listening to their response you can determine how you should respond and what level of language is required to get the person back on track. Everybody has their own neurological needs model and it is important to understand what level they are thinking at to enable the change you want to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nIf I am communicating something I don\u2019t\nbelieve in, then the chances are this will be reflected through the\nwords I used, my tonality and physiology the results of which will be\nseen by the audience who will instinctively be able to identify my\ntrue feelings and emotions by the way in which I have communicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nWhen people speak, you are able to identify\nwhat level of language they are communicating at, therefore it is\nthis recognition that will enable me to engage this individual once I\nhave understood where their language is coming from. Language is\ngreat because it enables you to recognise at what level they are\ncommunicating at. When people speak to you and by listening to what\nthey say you are able to identify the structure of how they are\ncreating the language and where it is being formed i.e., identity,\nbeliefs &amp; values, capabilities, behaviour, environment. Once you\nhave recognised where it is coming from, you can then construct the\nlanguage in which your reply to focus in on that very element that it\npreventing them from moving forward. If you concentrate on the\nstructure of what is being said as opposed to the problems, then you\ncan focus your attention on the way you should response in line with\nthe way it is being shaped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nIf you pay attention to the person you are able\nto listen to how their response is being constructed. If you can find\nout linguistically how it has been built, then you can start to build\na solution using the same framework they are using in their language.\nIf you listen to what is being said and pay attention\nto the words used then you can structure your language and reply in\nthe same pathway they are using to vocalise their feelings or\nemotions. By finding out linguistically how they have built the\nproblem, you can then start to unpack it using the same pathway they\nhave used in order to overcome the way they feel about it. If you\nrespond using a different pathway then the chances of the individual\nbeing able to move forward are limited as a result of differences in\nthe way the language is being formed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> When communicating with someone who lacks understanding or is unsure about the change being presented, you can identify the trigger in their language by just listening. If you can understand the individual and understand how they are thinking, you can then begin to build a way forward based on the fact that you are able to focus on the very thing that is causing the problem. You will then change your language pattern to match the individual to ensure rapport, connection and understanding, however if they communicate using beliefs and you respond using a different language pattern, then you have not identified the true course of the problems and where it is being constructed from. Our choice of words is key to discovering what the internal landscape of our minds and bodies is made up of. To benefit yourself, you can be aware of the words that you use in your self-talk and to others. By asking yourself key questions, you can identify the meaning you give to the words you use as well as to detect the words you use structure whereby you can discover where problems are being expressed through your use of language.
