As a blogger and developmental coach I’ve come to recognize the importance of being a good editor-in-chief. Of course, every media whether outlets, AV or internet media have such a person who guards the content editing \u2013 among other management tasks. The editor decides what’s ”on” or not and which do not fit into the parameters of what’s acceptable, and who suggests\/insists on the changes to be made in the content and wording. Right? Secondly, in my professional life I met really all sorts of varying calibers and styles in journalists and editors’ profession. I mean there are those editors-in-chief who edit too loosely, as a matter of fact they tend to give ”freedom” to journalists notably in online media and news portals whereby leaving mistakes, abstruse sentences or plain old weak writing unchecked. Consequently, lacking vision, the authors neglect to establish a concrete focus for their publication. Creativity thrives, nevertheless, at the cost of order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the\nother side, there are those editors who edit too rigorously. They\ndelete constantly whole paragraphs, replace author’s ideas and\nexpressions with their own, until the original piece becomes hardly\nrecognizable. The finished product might read perfectly, but it has\npractically become the editor’s creation, instead of yours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What\ndifferentiates the really excellent editor from the mediocre is the\nrare knack of setting strong guidelines while at the same time\nallowing the unique talent and spirit of each author to shine\nthrough. The ideal editor may be a great writer himself. The editor\nmay in theory has been able to express the same ideas and feelings\npresented in the article journalist’s submitted “better”\nthan the author has. However, the editor understands his writers’\nneed to author their independent creations. He also grasps that, in\nthe end result, allowing his writers to express themselves in their\nown different and varied ways will result in a better article and a\nbetter publication. Thus, though he will polish, weed out and improve\nfinal product before released, discarding, replacing and adding\nwords, ideas or sentences in accordance with his established criteria\nand grand plan, the editor-in-chief will also make sure to maintain\nthe unique style of the author throughout. Hence, he will choose the\nauthor’s words and expressions over his own even while correcting or\nenhancing. Excellent editor and a colleague will also work together\nwith the author to develop a piece that is on track, watching that it\ndoesn’t lose focus and become sidetracked from its goal even while\nallowing the author’s exploration along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why did I\nuse the editor’s metaphor in this text? Simply due to fact that in\nlife people are also presented with many choices and in these cloud\nof choices we become our own editor-in-chief and directors of our\ndestiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every\npath that we tread, every turn we take composes a fresh new sentence,\nparagraph or chapter in our lives. These combine to develop into our\nunique life stories, worded with our contributions and innovations,\nstyled by our special personality and talents, and marked with our\nmistakes and slip ups. Throughout it all, our ultimate Editor is\noverseeing our project, watching carefully that we don’t get\nsidetracked from our true area of responsibilities and goal, helping\nus to realize which choices might work better for us while still\npermitting us free choice. Despite the Editor’s overgenerous\nguidelines to get us to our end-goal, He still enables us to find our\nown voice and to be director, editor-in-chief, author of our own\nunique creation because that’s the way to get from us the very best\nstory we can deliver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
